John Redmond (JR) Watson was born in Montreal, Quebec. He grew up in Ottawa and was first a member at Larrimac Golf Club, Hull in 1973. In those years, there was not a CPGA professional so JR and his three brothers learned the game from his father who was a single digit handicapper.

Larrimac did not have a range so the game was learned on the course, which is probably why you won’t see JR practicing as much as he should. A junior club championship followed by a Men’s championship made Larrimac a special place to learn the game.

Memberships at Tecumseh, Champlain, Eagle Creek, The Dome and Camelot followed and in total, JR was a member of the OVGA and QGA for 25 years before turning professional with the CPGA in 2000.

A financial background that included management positions with the Banking and brokerage industry eventually led JR to Algonquin College. This is where he started his teaching career as a Finance and Accounting Professor.

A passion for golf led to a position as General Manager at Eagle Creek Golf Course. Missing the teaching and wanting to stay in the golf business, JR was able to combine both with the CPGA as a certified golf professional.

JR makes his home in Ottawa South and is especially proud of his family that includes his wife Lori and their two daughters.
